Need help maintaining offset during ungroup

Hi all, beginner question: I have a null with keyframes and that is grouped under another null. I want to ungroup them and have the animated null maintain it's relative offset (keep it's same position), but instead it pops to a different place in world space. In Maya or AE the numbers of the keyframe positions will change if you ungroup so that the object will remain in the same place in space, but c4d doesn't.. Is there any way?
thanks!

One way to do that is to copy the null's position and paste it into the animated null's freeze transformation.
