There is an excellent sports shoe tutorial for Modo on the Luxology site, most of the techniques would transfer to Cinema for anyone interested. But I'll add to the chorus on your LeBron shoe, that is a scary looking modelling task, beautifully done. Great to hear that you have to scrap your model when you're 75% done too! I often spend ages sketching out topology on paper before starting to model, I find it's often a mistake just launching into the model.

Seeing a lot more really impressive hard surface stuff done in ZBrush lately, I'd love to crack that technique to see how feasible it is for high res work.

That's a brutal modeling job -- well done.

Bet you wanted to make a bonfire of those shoes by the time you were done.

This tread was actually worse!

Fantastic work looks like a nightmare!
I'd be particularly interested to find out how you handle creating the transition from a detailed area to a smooth area, when you still have so many polys to deal with.

Wow. Great Modelling. I would also be interested: Are you really using the Spacemouse for Modeling? I have never get used to it. Also I miss all my Keys of the Keyboard. And switching from Spacemouse to Keyboard all time is not practical.

No, not using a space mouse for modeling. It's only good IMHO for showing off work or flying around in Google Earth
