Aaarrghhh!!! Help with Mirroring Weights needed...

God, how can mirroring weights from one side to the other be? The manual is soo shallow on the subject, I think I'm loosing my mind. The mirror tool doesn't do squat, tons of parameters that confuse you. It seems that it only works if you want to mirror joints all together with their weights. But I have the joints already on the right side of my character.

Could someone please, in the name of heavens, walk me step by step on how I can mirror the painted weights from the left side of my character to the right side using the weights manager before I loose my mind altogether?

I'm also attaching a snapshot from my viewport to this thread below.

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

This is the relevent part :

Paint the left side. Select all your Left side joints, Click Copy in the Weight Manager. Select all the corresponding Right joints. Click replace, then Flip X(assuming your character is facing down Z). You may need to normalize may not.
