Suggestions For Effective Hdri's?

In my day job I work a lot with product renders which involves a lot of lighting. I would love to find some tried-and-true HDRIs for mostly reflection / specular / environment setups to cut down on my lighting hours.

Can anyone suggest websites with effective HDRs? Even better, particular images that have proven themselves as real winners?

I use HDRI_001 from the C4D Content Library folder for a lot of my environment map needs. Of the built-in presets it's the one I prefer for most situations, I think it's got a good level of contrast and some interesting shapes. In terms of lighting I mostly stick with traditional light setups as they're much quicker to render.

have yo tried sIBL ? it splits the hdri into different images for the reflection/refraction and gi environment, there is also a c4d plugin. they also provide a starterpack. this approach tries to minimize hte major drawbacks of hdri based GI - extreme colour bleeding and render artifacts.

For hdri product renders, you might consider GreyscaleGorilla's hdri studio pack. It contains a rig for easily using the included hdri's of photo studio setups. I was impressed by how easy it is to create great results for those types of shots/renders.

If you are absolutely serious about studio HDR go for:

Amazing stuff.

Next, make sure that you are rendering QMC, otherwise you lose shadow definition when rendering with just GI.
