New Cesar Vonc Plugin : UVProj

Hi ,

Cesar Vonc released a new marvelous plugin : UVProj.

ProjUV v1.0

This is a module for projecting a UV unfolding object to another.

The tool is a Tag to be applied to the object to be textured. Feel free to suggest improvements, the module is free and open source!

The use of a single projection on two different models allows the texture in the same manner despite their difference in mesh. Example a car :

I tested with this simple plan deformed by a spline envelope deformer and a simple textured shader chessboard. I projected everything on an terrain object. Perfect and very easy to use!

I joined the scene with the differents steps :

Thank you Cesar !

Only planar projection?

I tried to project a cylinder onto another mesh but I couldn't get it to work. Does it only work with planar objects?

Thanks Cesar-Vonc, this is a great plugin! It reminds me of the commands "UV" present in Rhinoceros. Very useful!

Looks like a very useful UV texture mapping plugin! Can't wait to try it out!

Out of curiosity, how does it compare to transferring UV's with VAMP?

Even if it is no different, this is extremely helpful for users with any package besides studio(which means they would not have VAMP) So thanks for this.

Suggestions are welcome, if you have ideas to improve it.

What means VAMP, xfon5168 ?

VAMP is a tool in C4D since R10. If you have studio bundle, go to Character>Managers>VAMP.

It is used for Transferring Selections, UV's, Morphs, and joint weights from mesh to mesh.

Indeed, I didn't know VAMP, it's very usefull !

However, his UV projection don't seems to be very accurate (or maybe I don't use it well), here is a comparaison :

This seems like a very good plugin, even if you´ve got vamp. I guess the uv projector could be animated?

Unfortunately it doesn´t work for me. The sample scene works, but whenever I try something on my own nothing happens. It seems to be the problem that the automatically created selection tag is empty. And nothing can be selected, new tags don´t work either, as soon as I select them in the ProjUV tag their selection becomes empty.

Here is a file, r13. Or am I doing something wrong?

Erf, a plane of one polygon is the worst case for the plugin, it will work better and be more quick if the plane is subdivised (to have the structure of the two object a bit more similar). I will try to optimize this point.

The projection is made with the normal of the points, so you have to invert the normals of the plane (or just click the « Invert direction » case of the plugin) to make the projection in the right direction.

Yes, the projector object can be animated, the plugin detect if the object has changed and update the UV.
