In the next update I will introduce the smart channel shader.
This is the FIRST real reference shader for c4d.That means one shader, multiple use. not cloning.

example.
you add a shader to color.
you then add the Smart channel shader to color, the first shader is inserted inside smart channel.
the shader presents you with a list of optional channels in the material.(object or post effect, ect)
you then select the channels that should share this shader.
done , the channels are automatically activated for you and linked to a single instance of your shader.

In this way, with something like hair, many channels share and use one single instance of a shader.

standard material:

a hair material:

works with vray too.

Way cool. Do you think it's possible to do this between Materials as well? ...By adding a link field for materials ...each link showing it's own channels?

I get this error with the new demo when trying to load/invoke the Smart or Smart Link Shader "Unable to open file
/Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D R14/plugins/Tools4D Smart Link Shader/res/description/xchannel.res"

oops. thanks for the heads up.I will update shortly to 1.31 as I forgot to put the new res folder in the demo zip. and i screwed up the smart channel shader at the last minute. so a revision is pending.

edit: 1.31 demo is online.

btw,Im now on a nifty thing called the Smart shader menu. it learns which shaders you use, and when you open the shader menu, with the shift key pressed, you get a short list menu containing only the shaders you actually use, rather than everything. With a bit if luck that will be in the next update (1.35 or summat)

cheers

Finally got a chance to play with this, and bought it almost immediately. Nice work, it seems really solid. The list view is sure to prove useful too, having direct access to layered shaders in a material is a massive help.

One point, it wasn't clear at first the the smart parameters were actually overrides from the parent shader - it seemed as though these were the parameters that were going to be linked, so I spent a while wondering why nothing seemed to work until the penny dropped. Maybe I was being thick, but re-naming the smart parameter line to something like smart override might help clarify what's going on.

Cheers - C

thanks chris.

yes and you can also limit it to selected materials in this new version.(less being more in big scenes)
There is plenty more to come on the smart shader list.

>to something like smart override might help clarify what's going on.

yes, or I can document it better . RMB help opens the online docs , (which I have to update ASAP)

cheers
Paul

Ive added the Smart Shader menu (version 1.4)

Smart Shader menu demo..

A seamlessly integrated intelligent popup shader menu, which learns on the fly.

just use the shift key when choosing a shader to bring up your own personal "Smart Shader Menu"

Hi Paul,
great update ! Waiting for mac :-)

But one question after seeing your demo-video.
There you said:

>"lucky enough" to have the "Virtual Room Shader"< in the Textur Remapping Kit ?

If I look in my Textur Remapping Kit - Material_Slot , there is no Virtual Room Shader applied.
I use your newest version on mac.

Did I pass anything?

Best regards

updated to 1.45

more revisions to the shader list layout:
less stripes.
milder colors.
dumped the default shader icons.
improved channel readability.

better overview of channel contents.

and the useful ability to paste as smart link , added to the shader menu.
