@jayse--small world Sounded like you were looking for more than a rendertime boolean effect. I will have to check out Bret's proximal shader suggestion

@Rui--Remo? Out of sight--out of mind. Reminds me that I used to have a DiTools license. (goes back through old emails...)

Ah yes it was David's non-updated plugin that made me miserable! ;-) That's a good idea tho - let's pitch in - do a kick starter - buy him a deepshade-martini and a jayse-mai-tai.

@joel - yeah I was looking for something else - but the render boolean has been on my hit list for a lot of screen-design type things so it's cool it's resurrected!!

If proximal hid geometry from the camera, wouldn't you have holes or gaps in the visible geometry? I might not be understanding that fully.

Hi, you mean CSG operations?
such in RIB Container tag:
SolidBegin "difference"
			Sphere 100 -100 100 360
		SolidEnd
		SolidBegin "primitive"
			Disk 200 50 360
			Cylinder 50 -200 200 360
			Disk -200 50 -360
		SolidEnd
SolidEnd

Another vote for a good render boolean plugin...

I think the "SDMshader" is a part of the GeoTools Pack from Remo.

It seems very powerful. Cause you don´t have to struggle with complex
geometry. And if you ever did a bolean-animation that traditional way, you
know how much pain it could be, to handle polygons & points with it.

Here is a nice example of using this shader on complex objects:

It would be nice to see a strong solution to this. If Geotools already has the thing solved it would be handy to be able to purchase this as a separate item.

My only concern (honestly no offence intended) is that the (very clever) stuff on this site always seems like an ongoing experiment, rather than fully fledged plugins. ie there's absolutely no (obvious) info on the SDM shader - even though thats part of the Geotools pack. Along with that there are plugins on the site that don't appear to have been updated since 2009. ie are you buying into something that has a very limited lifetime. Geotools 2010? Sept - 2 years old? Is that ongoing - developing. Its all just very confusing. contact - two email addresses - not linked to the site - that concerns me. (Hopefully I'm wrong - its just the way its always appeared to me - again no disrespect intended)

If the shader is not a fully fledged boolean shader (or cannot be purchased separately) - I'd been happy to put an amount into an ongoing total to see what we can raise for David O if he is still willing to look at this.

I'm setting up a site for my plugins, it has just been on the back burner for a bit too long. I'll let you guys know what it is as soon as it goes live.

Awesome news, can't wait!

Awesome news David!!!

I have to agree with Paul - I've seen GeoTools etc. - but that has to be one of the worst site designs I've ever come across. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it doesn't inspire confidence in buying anything. Everything on it is quite confusing. This leads me to feel like I'd buy it, and get a 'manual' in plain text with less-than-clear instructions and be stuck not able to use anything. That, and that it's not available separately, may be why a lot of us haven't considered it as much of an option.

A solution as simple as the one that Modo has would be very helpful and I would support the effort.

Now available for R13/14, only minor internal fixes so far, more to come. You can find the alpha version at www.plugins4cinema4d.com

Looks great. However I'm having trouble dealing with the & and OR.
The examples crash my Cinema4D :-(
