Render booleans in r14?

Are there any tricks or 3rd party shaders that give me render booleans (as opposed to C4D's usual icky geometry booleans)?

Watching this Modo 601 render boolean video makes me sick to my stomach by how far away C4D is from this in terms of speed and cleanliness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdqpiHbAOXc

I have a render time boolean shader banging around from a few years back inspired by the stuff that I saw in PRMan (which you could use to do this in c4d too), I can see if it still works.

Funny. Someone was asking me about this sort of thing earlier today--and yeah that would be great to have. But taking it even a step further...

Wondering if it would also be possible to use an object not only as a render boolean, but also as a rendertime obscuration object (based on the view from camera). Of course we can do this sort of thing with matte objects and buffers but could sometimes be handy to be able to this in camera.

(sorry if this is off-topic--it seems tangentially relevant)

LoL I asked both y'all and, ahem, Per-Anders has been teasing me with a render time boolean shader since I was trying to do that with a Monkey's skull for Rise of the Apes! But I think it only works in pre R10. Tease no more!

Or I'm off to Modo! ;-P

That 601 clip makes me sick too... I so want that!

I don't think David O'Reilly is going to move his one on from ver 11 (he may be busy, not have time, etc etc - don't know - did ask at v12). It was generous of him to donate that WIP at the time, but I really miss being able to do the pristine, animated booleans that are possible via a shader and don't want to pester the guy.

So unless someone else takes up the challenge you're going to have to use another app.

Couldnt this maybe be accomplished with a proximal shader in your alpha channel and a compositing tag on your shape to hide from camera? Or does that not work?

You are such a nice chap David.

What about a few of us getting together to pledge a sensible amount to make this worth working on?

Well, that looks like the same thing. Can you buy just the shader?

I don't know if remo sells just the shader.
The best way is to contact him.
