Making my own layers and passes right now on a project as I type this. C4d handles the multipasses fairly well (with exception of Object Buffer naming/management!), render but layers are a pretty manual process, where the layer solo plugin helps a lot thankfully.

A UI to manage Object Buffers, Compositing Tags would be insanely helpful. Something like your Smart List would make managing Composting Tags so much easier; it's really challenging now to dig through dozens of objects and their Comp Tags and syncronising all the visibility, include/exclude and object ID settings

Doesn't address all the issues mentioned, but there is a plugin called buffer booster that could help you with buffer management--in case you weren't aware.

Sorry to be negative on this one. I would consider it if it would rename the passes file sequences themselves, creating a logfile manually really isn't a problem... I always custom name my passes in the render settings to keep track of what each number includes, it's the files' names themselves that are the problem.

We can batch rename them afterwards using special software, but that's cumbersome and time consuming to do, especially when updating them.

ok, i dont think I want to address those workflow issues, but I have developed system where you can use materials/shaders to write to multipass layers, making the use of the compositing tag +/- redundant.

without wanting to hijack this thread, more info to follow.

Hi Paul,

did I get this right: your tool will allow generating buffers for specific materials? So for example I could have a mask just for the faces, a material is applied to via a selection? This would be awesome!

>for the faces, a material is applied to via a selection?
yes, you can rout the output of any channel or shader to any multipass layer(or object buffer).

This in effect gives you Material/shader based render buffers.

eg.
you have a layer shader , it contains 3 noises, if you wanted , you could send all 3 noises to 3 differrent buffers. so any shader to any buffer.

you can write either matte, rgb, grey, max or r,g,b into each buffer , any way you want and you dont ever have to touch that comp tag again.

cheers
Paul

Sounds awesome... really lookin´ forward to this! It´s really annoying setting up "maskrenders" just to seperate a material for CC...

what about combustion, motion, shake, digital fusion ?
does anyone export for stills with psd layers?

Mostly stills for PSD layers and some After Effects.

For .psd with layers for stills, please make it work with tile cameras for NetRender. Thanks!

Smart multipass, resolves file names and layer names and adds a complete new way to work with those so called "object layers'. With Smart multipass , you will never have to look at a compositing tag again.

>psd with layers for stills
Smart Multipass transfers your layer names to your psd layers. so if you named a layer "crap layer" in the multipass buffer list ,this is now the name you see in the appropriate photoshop layer.

>it's the files' names themselves that are the problem.
Smart Multipass , saves ALL your multipass files with your buffer names correctly transfered into both the picture viewer layer list and the file names.

This will be part of Smart Shaders, so if you purchased Tools4D Smart Shaders 1.0 , you get Smart Multipass for free.

Are you going to add a functionality to render each "buffered/layered" object fully and not cutted buy the object which stays in front of it? i mean after render in layers we'll get all marked objects renders separately from each othere?
p.s.: sorry for english

I think I know what's going on. It would be nice to if the next demo video had some audio
and was a little slower (less caffeinated).
