The proverbial Carpet Unroll Question...

Hey Guys,

Been looking for answers everywhere and found a few similar unanswered questions but...

Does anyone have any idea how to unroll carpet around a corner?
I'm currently using a bend deformer to 'unroll' my object/carpet and i've tried using a spline wrap
which works fine as to getting my carpet to follow the corner but I can't get the bend deformer working
at the same time? Any ideas please?

Thanks,

TonyG.

corners

In the real world this isnt possible without a custom carpet or some inbuilt flexibility.
There is a plugin I looked at a while back called scroll roll deformer but I have no idea about curves as I have nor used it.

This plugin is supposed to be good for rolling (I think Wonky is referenceing it)

But I know thats not really what you are asking

Try use the bend and the spline wrap, put the carpet and the spline wrap into a null. Then put that into another null. Try putting the bend deformer in the top parent null. That way, the spline deformer will be evaluated first and then the bend will apply to those results.

You can also try putting the null holding the spline deformer and the carpet into a connect object (make sure welding is off). The connect object would be a child of the parent null right next to the bend.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and for the links guys.
I guess I'll have to find some sort of compromise if I can.

Actually this setup kinda works. The carpet goes a bit 'giggly giggly' at the bend. But it works!

Cheers again.

I found this carpet rolling file at C4D Cafe a while back. It works, but TBH I'm not sure why.
