Environment Fog...is its falloff linear, exponential/squared?

Hi, does anyone happen to know what kind of falloff math the Fog is using inside of the Environment Object? The most common falloff types I know of for fog are linear, exponential, and exponential squared. I'm just curious which one Maxon is using here.

My gut feeling is that it is linear, but I can't say I've ever wondered about it before!

I think it was linear before they switched to linear workflow.
that messed up the enviroment fog and gradients for alpha, transparency and falloff.

switch of linear workflow and you will see

best regards
