Texture Tips needed

Hi everyone,

I am a Video Game Art and Design student. I have been modelling for pretty long while now but I did not need to texture much. Since I started the program I am requested to do the texture for my work as well.

I am a intermediate user for Maya, Max, Cinema 4d. We mostly use Max. But even if my modelling is good because of my texturing my work looks very unproffesional. My instructors tell me that my modelling is good and improving a lot but i need to improve my texturing.

They tell me that the base textures I use is mostly the issue. I'd like to watch tutorials to see how others achieve getting the textures they need so I can also use and learn those methods in my own projects.

One last thing, we use a lot of crazybump but on spec crazybump is not very successfull could anyone suggest any alternative or give me a tutorial for how to apply spec on photoshop please.

Thank you all in advance for all the help.

No real tips! My advice to you is to find a project you'd like to do. An old car, an airplane, a monster, anything. Find tutorials related to what you are doing. Push your project, try different things.
Then ask for critique here.
