Normal mapping in xNormal.

Hey there everyone!
As mentioned above I have a question about normal mapping.
I'm making a steampunky model, think gasoline pump with added valves, pipes and decorations. Most of the extremities are seperate parts and i need to normal map as much as possible in one map.
For arguments sake, let's simplify.
I have a low poly cube that i want to smooth the edges of with a high poly version. Now I also have a seperate high poly decoration, say the number three, that i want to be part of the finished normal map. How could i acomplish this in, say, xNormal?
I have tried it every way i can think of in this program and fix the cube's edges easy enough, but the decoration just won't be recognised as part of the cube (it does show up on the 3d viewer though).
