I would recommend the lighting book by Jeremy Birn. Owen Demers book on texturing is quite old. There are some really, really solid principles in there which any artist should learn, but the texturing specific techniques he describes are quite out of date. A good place to start learning about texturing could be Paul Campion's DVD for Gnomon. Sadly there are no books that come to mind.
Here is a simple step by step project you could do: Jerrycan |

@marque
Thank you for your fast reply. I have noticed you have been very active recently. Are there any full tutorials I should work through. I have watched the DVD you mentioned. Or is there any general advice that could help me get started/better |

"very active"? Nah... Just every so often I visit the texturing forums and run down a few posts to see if there is anything I can help with. A few years ago CGTalk was bustling with activity. Then I would visit a least a few times every day.
In the beginning there is only really one thing: Practice makes perfect. They say it takes about 10,000 hours of practise to achieve mastery of any field. So put those 10k hours in. Do you have anything you want to show/share? Then perhaps I could give you some more specific advice... |
