trying to texture a model for sculpting

Hello,

I am trying to texture a model for sculpting. I am trying to find the most optimal solution for getting the least distortion. I am going to export the model into mudbox where I wish to create a displacement and a specular map.

How would you guys lay out the uv's for such a model?
I am not going to worry about the inside faces, because most probably they won't be visible in the finished image.

Your UVs look okay, although the best way to check them is to apply a checkerboard texture to them, as this immediately reveals any distortion.

Sorry, I forgot to apply a checkered texture. It seems I have problems in the corners, where the UV should meet. I tried also fixing by sewing the uv's but the result isn't that good.

What would your recommend for the corners?

Seams are pretty much inevitable and unavoidable. You're not going to be able to create totally distortion-free edges there, so you may as well unweld the points and create seams to lessen the distortion, and then simply use a 3D painting tool to deal with the texture seams.

Thank you. I bit the bullet and started sculpting in the area where the seams are and the program had no issue in dealing with the seam, it acted as it was no seam there. I didn't know sculpting apps can do that.

I will soon post a wip topic to show the project that I use this model in.
