Cool stuff you can do with gradient mapping

This is something that doesn't seem to get much exposure on CGtalk, well I've not found a great deal on information on it.

I was pleased to stumble across this mini tutorial a little while ago which opened my eyes to gradient mapping:

Here's one example where I've used it - for the larger water marks on my Caterpillar project which I think hold up fairly well at close range. Hopefully this will help others.

Anyone able to share some of their experiences and other creative uses for gradient mapping?
