Exclamation Modifying UVs in Mari

Hey Guys...really basic question but I'm not quite sure how to google/search for it...maybe I'm just daft.

1. In Mari how do you change the current object's UVs. Will this screw up a previously painted texture map that you've painted within Mari?

2. Is there any way of adapting the current color/texture map to the new UVs in a non-hairpulling way? Does Mari keep the paint layers in some kind of world space buffer that you can use to make that transition easier? Or is it generally a ball ache like I'd assume.

I don't think you can edit UVs in Mari. At least, you couldn't in the last version I used (which was around the middle of last year).

Thanks for the reply! Hmmm. Even the most basic functionality of replacing the UVs by importing them based the same model out of a separate package like Maya where you modified the UVs?

For example like Mudbox's Import UVs option?

Oh, do you mean that you just don't want to lose what you've already done in your Mari scene? You can import the updated obj as a new version of the current object...

That's what I was hoping. But odds are that if you have your current mari paint layers based on the old UVs, and your new UVs are very different, then the paint layers will still be mapped onto the old texture, correct? I know this is a very basic question and I'm assuming it DOES indeed get messed up just like it would in any other paint program but I was just hoping Mari had an intelligent way of transferring the texture to the new UVs...which probably doesn't exist.

Yes, the texture will have issues which will need to be fixed. There isn't really a method of baking the existing textures to adapt to the new UV map.

you could use mudbox to transfer the paint layers...
but you will have to rename all your tiles...

do a search for mari to mudbox renaming... there should be a tool out there...

Yeah that's what I figured. Oh well!

Thanks for the tip Christoph. I actually love Mudbox and usually use that so I'm familiar with those techniques, but I was just hoping somehow mari had some voodoo to fix that issue...I really just need to learn more about its limitations.
