I'd appreciate if you could tell us more (in writing) about your ideas for your image, what you wish to convey and so. It would really help a lot. Then I 'd suggest planning the image. Concept art in 2d is much faster at that stage. But being able to communicate the idea of the image is quite an important start as then you could try every decision further on based on that. You need an idea for the image, and an idea for who he is. When you know what those ideas are you need ideas as for how to show it in an image. If the idea is that this is the "hell guardian" by heritage, but he is nice and cute and not mean the image could show him happily sitting a cuddling with a kitten while people escape. Of course you don't need to take that idea for an image either, I'm just trying to give you examples.

By having decided to make him look like he does I guess you already have one, but you have not communicated it, so we don't know. Please tell us more about your idea for the image and about who this character of yours is. If we are to be able to provide relevant ideas we need to understand your ideas, and we can't unless you try to explain them to us.

Hi,

In fact tobbew, my intention was to do some stuff like this image, so no really meaning just a presentation of the character:

ATTENTION ! THIS IS NOT MY IMAGE, it is an image from Michael van den Bosch

But apparently mine is not so expressive...

I'll search for a global meaning in my illustration. I keep you inform on my ideas to get your feed back.

Cu,
Jeff

Hi,

I have find a new idea for my character. Behind him will be a kind of "Heavy Metal Club" and he is the GateKeeper of it.

I have advanced in that direction, I'll post an first image based on that idea this evening.

Cu,
Jeff

I think it's a much more interesting picture. You still haven't told us about his personality, what do you think about him? How would you like to introduce him? If you were following him as a photographer on his work for a week, which pictures would be the most interesting ones you'd be able to get?

The pose is still a very neutral one. I suggest you take a look at picture 1 and 10 in this thread http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=829183 as an example of the value of dynamic poses and camera angles. I still don't know what you wish to convey with the image.

As for the tattoos I think they are far too symetrical, and covering too much of his body (my opinion, very subjective, of course), this seems a bit much, but perhaps if they were not as symetrical it would work anyway. Biggest problem is the ones around (above) his eyes which don't look good. In general I'd say the patterns don't look very interesting, I'd suggest taking a look at some cool tattoos, but my problem in giving more specific ideas is that I still don't know what his personality is like, which would of course heavily affect his choice of tattoos. Here is a quick search for some examples: http://www.google.com/search?q=heavy+metal+tattoo (click images).

Hi tobbew,

First of all, thanks for the feed back.

To describe the character, he is the gatekeeper so he is a very bad guy.
He take his job very seriously and refuse many people.
He like to look frighten. We can compare him to a dog that protect the house.

That's the way I want him to be.

Cu,
Jeff

If you wish him to look mean and frightening I'd emphasize his upperbody (chest and arms (esp upper arms)) somewhat to make him look more powerful. I'd make the eyes smaller (the current size makes him look like a cute child or disney princess) [this might be possible to solve by just closing the eyes more, or perhaps just a stronger facial expression could do it]. Here is a list of cartoony facial expressions that you could look at for some inspiration: http://drawinghowtodraw.com/stepbys...ions-bigger.png . Again consider taking photos of someone (or yourself) acting like him to see what kind of poses and compositions would give the most interesting image.
You could take a look at this: http://www.google.se/imgres?q=aladd...r:1,s:120,i:136 for some examples of sillhuette curves.

By the way, I think it's cool that it says iron maidens live, as it could also mean the torture equipment suitable for hell.

Hi,

I have detailed more the floor and change the lighting to it. I have also change the opening in the window to concentrate the lighting more on the "Hell" light and make the image more readable.

Here is the current state:

Hi,

I have get back to a more pure version, without too many stuffs that don't fit with the global image, they are too "real".

So here is the current status:
