fun

The leg is looking good.

I am in the process of doing a spidery mech as well. One thing that helped me was to look for reference images of spiders to get segment lengths, posture, and general massing.

Keep it up, cant ever have to many mechs

Here's a bit of an update. I started to design somewhat of an environment for the mech.

Hey man,

It would probably help to get a mech a little more hashed out before working on the environment you hope to place it in.

Can you share a little more about your project?

I have a really wide library of different references thanks to a site called nothingbutmech, but here are a few that I've been using.

I plan on rendering this out using the Arnold render engine with some volumetric scattering. Not sure how that will go yet since I've never used Arnold before.. lol But since I have a good grasp on Mental ray and V ray I'm hoping to pick it up quickly.

It's looking interesting already.

I'm starting to plan to do my first mech too.. so I'm very interested on seeing what other artists are doing on this theme.

Looking forward for more!
Keep the good job carloniw!

So I haven't been able to work on this in quite some time so I thought it might be time to give an update. Here's a bit of an idea of what I'm planning for the body of the mech

Looking interesting!

About the leg: you are using shock absorbers but what you want to use is hydraulic cylinders, like the one below..

Keep up the great job!

Thought I might do a test to see how it's looking all put together.
Found a few issues with rigging the leg. not sure if I want to use 2 ik's to control each leg or if I want to use one Ik for the main part of the leg and then use a script on the rotation of the other. Off to test!

So I've finally started to really get some work done on this and I feel it coming all together! Soon going on to the texturing/rendering phase. Looking forward to doing my first real scene using Arnold!
