nick's stuff (mostly characters)

I tend to jump around from one project to another to prevent myself from losing interest and to stay fresh. Instead of tracking down numerous threads I decided to just start a single thread with all of my work. This will also be a good way for me to keep track of my progress.

So to start off, I need a fairy character. I wanted to make her look a little rough, but still inviting. The concept was just a quick sketch to give me some direction.

Anyways, I'm ready for sculpting.

Interesting concept. However, I think that the torso and legs might be a bit disproportionate to the arm and head.

Threw down base colors and added some textures. Need to dirty things up and improve some things. Also need to make wing/feather things.

Added eyelashes, worked on sculpt a bit, testing rig. Need to work on texture more.

I really wasn't happy with the current hair solution so I decided to work with hair planes instead. It really needs more work but I'm already liking it better than the poly hair.



I'm going to put more effort into the clothing now. Maybe add a few accessories as well.

Worked with hair a bit more. Improved opacity maps. I am going to replace the belt with a thicker one. Hopefully that will cover up the boring flat part of the shorts enough. After that it's small details on the texture and wings.

Well I'm making progress but I have plenty of issues to address.

fixes:
- specularity needs work all around
- belt metal looks way too new and shiny
- normal map acting funny on the body, probably going to have to re-render that part. I adjusted the contrast one too many times lol
- opacity map needs to be cleaned up.

to do:
- wings... I think I'm going to make them more like bat wings
- dirt/scratches/marks on texture - specifically on the skin

Scene is going to be very simple and backdrop will be painted.

The seam are showing up at the shoulder area. maybe using a 3D paint program & paint over them will be a good idea.

I think the skin area outside of the edge of the mouth are too sunk in (like a fat chick sucking in to look more skinny, if you know what I mean). Try making it more protrude/more volume (convex). Give it a try, I think she will look better.

End of the eyes should be sharp, not rounded. in fact the top of the eyelip overlap the bottom by a little. Check yourself in the mirror.

Keep it up.

Thanks for the response. Yeah the mouth did look weird to me as well, thanks for pointing that out. You are right about the eyes too. I need to change that. I fixed the seam in the arms - it was my normal map.
