Sorry or the lack of updates, I have been busy. However here is where I am on this project at the moment

I've decided to go with an outdoor scene as suggested by Mr-Evil-studio. I've just blocked it out so far. I'm trying to think of interesting angles for the camera and I can't seem to settle on one. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Keep in mind that there will be a rocking chair to the left of the banjo.

Your banjo is coming along nicely, but the inlays along the fretboard and headstock bother me - surely they should be pearl and not white? The white is quite distracting.

agreed, thanks for noticing. When making them I thought of that but clearly forgot, I remember trying to create a material that would mimic that of inlayed pearl but couldn't make it act to light in the right way. I don't know if I should be using sss to accomplish this or what? thanks for your critique I will certainly go back and rework that.

SSS might be overkill for inlays. You could probably cheat it with a colour and spec map. At least, that's how I'd try it first.
