The 4th Sign

Describing the 4th sign seen by the Buddha: The alms mendicant, seen after old age, sickness and death. The one that has gone beyond these.. I'd modelled this back in 2010, and just knocked out a quick render with ZBrush. Picked it up again, refined the geometry some more, added some props, and here's a VRay render. Still working on it. I know the anatomy's not great, just amanged to get VRay SSS working, but the spec is too high.. Any tips on improving it for what it is are welcome.

The man's face looks pretty strange, it's pretty distracting. Improving the face could improve the entire image.

Appreciate the feedback..

hehehe.. He represents the oldest type of Buddhist monks. Forest monks. They live on 1 meal a day, by begging, if nothing is, offered, then they fast.. Can go on for days. They sometimes take a vow not to lie down, so very little sleep.. They basically wander forests.. Only settling down during the monsoon period. Its a pretty austere life. And they shave their heads, and eyebrows.. As a sign of getting rid of their vanity..

There's no eyebrows there.. guess that contributes to the weirdness.. Also he's supposed to be emaciated and weather beaten, maybe even slightly malnourished:

I think my displacement maps/normal map. maybe slightly messed up, as the face looks pretty ok in the ZB sculpt..

ZB render:
