Pixel's Dreamland

Hello folks!

I'm doing this new project called Dreamland. It's going to be a poster sized image for on the wall for my little niece. The whole idea for those fabric hills came from Disney's Lullaby Land. The locomotive will be driven by a teddy bear or something fluffy:-) The image is still in progress so comments en critics and ideas are more then welcome!
Modeled in Maya rendered in Vray.

(for those who wonder where my ec-145 helicopter project is going, well it's on hold so more updates in the near future ;-))

Hey, I like where this is going. What kind of light setup are you using? It has a nice sort of chilly early morning atmosphere, which works good for a dreamy scene, maybe add some fluffy white clouds (coming from the locomotive)? The patchwork landscape is cool. Are you planning to stuff the scene with lots of props and characters?
Anyway, looking forward to further progress.

Hi guys, thanks! I use just a simpel Vray sun and sky set up to get this effect. In the background i will place a planet or some kind of space related stuff to get more feeling of a dreamland ;-) yeah I think it is cool to do some clouds from the locomotive! but i'm not sure how, maybe with some maya effects. I will place just one character in the scene and he will be in the locomotive waving at the camera. Some kind of stuffed bunny ;-)

looking really good!! I think if you are going to have a stuffed bunny in the locomotive, then in response to the recommendation from Elpollo, i think the puffs of smoke coming from the locomotive could be like cotton balls? Im not sure if this is what you were trying to say Elpollo, but this would really give the scene more character than trying to achieve a realistic look with some cloud work simulated through maya... just my suggestion

That's a pretty good suggestion goatrape! I never thought about that! I will give it a try :-)

That's a lovely idea.
I must say that I'm not a fan of the chromed steam engine. I think that the reflexion is too distracting, and it does not fit the scenario. But that's my opinion.

What Material/color do you think that will fit in this scenario?

I kinda like the material for the chrome, but what i think might help is havin more detail on that engine. Maybe some nuts/bolts, metal ties, an extruded ring on the side and front of it. But Also the reflection on the chrome material is just the pistons...i know this is still a work in progress, but maybe the reflection could also have some clouds or other hills in it? that way it will break up overall reflection a bit...maybe even blur the reflections a tad more as well?

Yeah I agree with you that the engine part needs more detail so i'm working on it:-)

For something intended for kids, the work you have lacks color, at least at this current stage.

too much pink & magenta.

You may want to consider making some concept in color to see if it works.

Well the idea is to match the colors of the baby room. The colors they used are white and pink. So i'm not going to use bright colors like yellow orange etc because, in my opinion, that will do the scene no good. But what kind of colors were you thinking about?More bright colors?

A very nice image. I would make the right flower more contrasty not to disappear, then I don't know about the sky - from one point I wouldn't want to clatter it, from another it seems a bit too uniform. Maybe just a little thing like clouds or something would add a final touch.
