Iron Man (Mark III)
I'm pretty much obsessed with the Iron Man suit, particularly the first movie version (Mark III).
I've modeled it several times and each iteration has been better as my skills in Maya improved. This is the last iteration, still a work in progress in several areas, but advanced enough that I feel comfortable sharing here. All built in Maya, rendered in Mental ray. Each frame taking about 90s on my kinda old Mac. Any questions and feedback are very, very welcome. __________________

really good, but it seems like its lower face should be wider if you follow references. But your version maybe looks even cooler

Figured out how to embed a Vimeo video on the forum...should be easier for people to see the turntable now.
New stills, with little improvements in several parts (I haven't yet merged both halves, though): ![]() ![]() Regarding the width of the chin area...you may be right, I'll look into it. __________________

There is something wrong proportionality with the legs. Do you have a full body picture. Even screen cap is ok.

Scote, you have posted references of the MKVII suit, against the OP's MKIII suit. There are lots of differences between the two. I do agree however that the chin is too thin.
The best place for Iron Man references is here: http://www.therpf.com/f24/tmp-iron-...19/index73.html and here: http://www.siwdat.com/forum.html You will have to register |

I've made the changes some of you suggested (thanks for the feedback, BTW) and started the rigging process, which is always troublesome for me. Here´s how I intend to attack this problem:
1. Use the AdvancedSkeleton rig script, because it is awesome. Since Iron man has no facial rig, I chose the simple biped rig. I think it’ll work just fine for the needs of this model. 2. Keep skinning to a minimum. This is where I ask your oppinions: the parts that don’t deform will be grouped to themselves and this group will be parented to the joints. This will allow for secondary animation of the individual pieces. Posed example: __________________
