I have been looking for a decent Mech model for ages and just hoped you might share. Never been able to model, just can't get my head round it. Lighting is my area of specialty.

i wonder how you did that detailing, is it just plain illumination?a plugin?, occlusion? i cant seem to get a strong effect like yours with the current max tools.

ZGMF-X10A: what do you mean? Could you point that detail? Btw I don't use plugins under Softimage, but I'm rendering Ambient Occlusion pass. And to be honest I don't know what "plain illumination" means... Did you mean Global Illumination maybe?

That really is stunning, is there a cockpit on top?

It rerminds me a lot of my old friend Pawel's models, although he used truespace for his modelling.

No, the cockpit is inside the mech, without windshield. It's something like in the Neon Genesis Evangelion.
I love the battletech mech's designs, but the cockpits don't look safe for me. Just think about taking an LRM20 strike with a direct hit. Maybe the mech itself could take it, but probably only one hit to the cockpit... That's why I decided to hide it inside the armor shell...
