USMC M16A4 Assault Rifle

Right, I've said to some (eRKK mostly) that I will start modeling an M16A4 instead of continuing with my old M4. So here it is!

I'm going for a Battlefield 3 approach with the stock wrap, and a couple of attachments used on the M4A1 in BF3's cover art. I'm also creating this model based on my own M16A4 airsoft rifle, which is COMPLETELY authentic in looks. Proportions and everything is exactly like the real steel. This makes everything so easy to model since I can just use a ruler to get the right proportions...

High Resolution (4800x2400): http://i.imgur.com/tz0cc.jpg

The front sight, flash hider and magazine are all imported from the old M4. They are just placeholders and will eventually be remodeled.

Critiques and comments are always welcome since I want to improve my modeling skills.

If you want any other angles, please let me know and I'll make a render of it!

Actually I'm rendering with Vray. The only lightsource I use is the skylight, which is an HDR Image (one from Dosch Desert & Dawn)

I couldn't finish the lower receiver today, but here's what it looks so far:

Update!

Added a displacement map for the stock pad. Finished the lower receiver and hand grip.

Gonna add the screws on the stock pad soon as well.

I think the main reason not many people are repling is because it actually does look good were just waiting for you to do more on it, on that note are you going to be doing a low poly and a texture for it?

True. Thanks I guess, lol

I'm not going to do a low poly out of this. At least that's not my mission now. However, I'm going to texture it and possibly make a character as well. We'll, see about that though. I lack skills in sculpting, but some day I should learn that and might as well be now.

Wow! Stunning! The amount of detail and the accuracy of every single part is just... wow... stunning. I'd love to see wires! Excellent modelling!

Thanks man! I can show you some wires soon I have to do some changes to the receivers, because they're out of proportions now. I noticed this when I started creating the hand grip. The depth should be 3cm wide. Apparently mine is currently 2.4cm... Need to fix it before I continue anything else.

Some updates. I've remodeled the top receiver, and made the bottom receiver wider (depth-wise). Now it's in line with the correct proportions. Also, I modeled the Delta Ring and added a bump map to the pistol grip.

I have modeled the stock pad now. Only thing left is getting back that diamond texture on it. Will do it later today.

And by the way, does anyone know if there actually is a door cap on the real stock pad? I've been looking forever on Google, and I just can't find any info about it. I made it anyways though, but I will remove it if it's not there on the real one.

Looking good! Keep going! Some info on the buttplate: it does have that lid. Here's an old reference sheet of mine. But I guess you won't need it if you already have good reference!

Thanks! I used my own airsoft rifle for reference. But I wasn't sure if it looked the same on the real steel, so thanks for the image!
