Thanks dude Really do appreciate any comments I get!
Sorry its took me so long to comment, but I didn't want to bump my thread without having some kind of update :(

Just to let you know this isn't forgotten and is still being worked on. The battery compartment is proving a pain but its getting there.

Just a shader/render test of one of the black varients.
All Modo 401 for modeling and rendering, and some Gimp for brightness adjustments/adding that glow at the back to blend.

Just a test but I hope you like it

Lighting consists of 3 lumigons and 4 standard directional lights

Full size:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b...ge/black360.jpg

It's certainly getting there I hope you agree. Still the compartment inside to finish where the batteries go, which may or may not ever be seen, but I could make an animation for my reel I hope to finish at some point.
Hopefully this work will put it in good stead as a start off point.

Then of course comes the console itself!!!

Comments/crits of course welcome

Turns out I've been a bit misguided. Their have been so many versions, its hard to know which one I'm doing at one time.

Their was a white one, a black one that came with the elite with the same coloured buttons as the white, then one that came with the S which has black buttons and piano black smoothed surfaces on some parts and chrome guide. It turns I have gotten the render slightly muddled that I have done the black one without the smooth surfaces and chrome

So... Oh and not to forget the fact that inside the battery compartment, in each revision, their are different circuitary, due to the fact their are also 3 versions. A Matrix, a CG, and a CG2 set of boards

Any clues on which I should model? The new Slim, or my older Premium/Elite (for the black).
I just don't find the S as interesting to look at, or will be as interesting to light, but it is the more relevant version.

Personally, I think you should do the console you think will be presented better and find more interesting as you said. I don't think relevancy plays a huge part, unless it was being used for an advert. But this is a personal project isn't it? So do the more aesthetically interesting and pleasing to you. An expertly modelled and lit PS2 would still be impressive, although it may not be considered relevant any more. Appreciation is not dictated by the subject matter, but by the quality of the work. Go with what you feel, that's my view. But whatever you choose I'm sure it will look great.

Thanks Daniel

Yeah, it is personal work for my portfolio hopefully, to show what I can do. Hoping to get a few more pieces down after this one of different things.

Yeah I agree with you totally. I do wish it to have some kind of an advertisement feel though, especially if I decide to run an animation off, which was originally the idea back in the day when I first attempted to model this controller and couldn't. Really shows how my skill set has improved, so I may end up modeling the newer one for that reason.
I may actually do both. It depends how fast my new scheme of getting things done works.

Thanks again

Finally started work on the console itself!
Been feeling a bit down recently, so sorry for lack of updates and such..

This is a screeny of some quick renders and wireframe shots of the console so far:

Clicky for full:

So far so good. You may notice a few 5 sided polys, but guess what? Modo seems to like them from what I can see...
I tried making them quads, and as you can probably see in the image, that would be rather easy to do, YET, Modo created creases due to them meeting at the same point on the poles.
I found deleting some edges actually solved all the issues I was having with bumpiness.

Creating edges would be a very hard thing to do also after I first curved after creating a linear flow of edges all around, and then cut into it. I tried doing it the other way without much success at all...

Also, these are some shots of the controller I didn't want to post until some work on the console was done. It includes the battery attachment which was a damn pain to model if I'm honest, but worth it:

Hope you like, and you aren't bored

Great model and superb attention to detail as always. I realise that the black background allows for a clean clear silhouette of the model but the white halo/glow detracts from the overall quality. I dunno if it was the light from the render or what. Looking forward to seeing the console!

Thanks d4nw4rd, really appreciated
Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about the renders either, but it just seems to look better than them on a solid black background, but don't expect final renders to look like that

As for the console, can you see the image I started of it?

Yeah, sorry, missed it the first time. Console looks like a solid start. I know what you've uploaded so far are just demo renders, that's why I haven't mentioned them really. Keep up the good work.

Cheers the shape was actually a real pain.
I'm still wondering if I should have started work on the new console, and not the older pro one, but I don't have access to the new one, apart from maybe buying one to model for this project alone, and I can't bring myself to do that. Even if the one I have now does sound like a jet aircraft.

Yeah, updates hopefully tomorrow. I want to really speed up. This set due to me stopping and starting etc has lasted almost 8 months now, with past revisions dragging on for longer.
I'm glad that I got back to it though, and have decided to finish it, because it has certainly been the biggest challenge for me so far, and I've put myself through it as its not for anyone haha!

I do like to render... Clays I think for the moment.

Well, I bought the new one, so work can progress.

I think I've reached almost final renders on the controller at least. Back renders soon, and hopefully spins, and detachment renders.
Here are a few test shots of the new shaders/lighting.
No HDRI has been used. It's all lumigons/directional lights.
I'd like to think I've reached photographic realism in a studio at least.

Please click, and again to get the full 100% shot from Photobucket

Any replies are welcome. This is all taking longer than I thought, but I'd like to think I'm learning a whole lot.

I'm actually rather excited actually for what I've achieved. A happy day at work tomorrow for sure

Hey guys. Started work on the 360S console. Figured I'm just going to model the new one to get this finished faster, and it makes sense since its the new model.
I'm going to try and set deadlines to get me to points faster too

Small update. I'm at the minute modeling the fan behind the mesh, then I will procede with the top/back, and then of course, texturing and such

Thanks so much for the comment jigu.
I'm hoping to have more up either tomorrow or Friday.
I sometimes find it such a struggle to get motivated, especially if I'm having trouble with a certain aspect.

I'm a bit insane... Since I got up, I've been 3D modeling the fan for the 360 model, and the picture next to it will prove why I'm a bit insane... and stupid as my sister put it so bluntly. You can hardly see any of it... HAHA. All that detail. At least... I know it's there?...

The detail:

An idea of where its going (I know its meant to sit 100% behind the mesh area. I only just noticed that) :

Finished the heatsink too, as that was also partly visible.
That is complete now though.

Now I can work on the top/back
