yeah the car is infact crazy low but i modeled it very closely to some references i found on the net.

yes you are right, i did some things in catia, like the wheels, tires, badges and fenderflares.
I have access to catia through my work and therefor like to use it for some of the parts. Here i also have access to RTT Deltagen which enables me to import the native catia files and tesselate the things ive modeled in catia, or any other CAD software for that matter. And then its easy to bring it to another 3D package for rendering.

hope that helps

small update.

licenseplate (done in polys)

badge (modeled in catia)

I try to make something in Catia, & export in stp format. Works somewhat, & the output is in Nurbs, & multiparts, & required a lot of patching. Maybe there is a way to save as wire (stl maybe) & I need to explored when I am in office next week.

PKD, let me know how your experiments go

heres a render of the badge:

STL format works (somewhat), but export is all triangles.

See my picture on my link:

I tried it on something simple first, a door knob. I can already imagine the possibilities now.

tried to come up with a nicer material setup for the tires. the sidewall texture is "borrowed" from a racing slick i did, so please ignore the wrong lettering for now.

My Father owned a few 240Z's in the 80s and 90s. This looks fantastic, 211.
