@TwoOneOne: Nice job on that Eurocopter, remember doing my EC-135 back in the days But yeah, did mine via polymodeling, not nurbs. How long did you work on yours? Haha and yes, never say never

@Richard823: Sure, I just went to the real bird and took tonsof photos Good thing is, all reference is of one particular model then, no confusion. My machine has 24GB of RAM but it's not the model which slows down stuff, it's the 8k x 8k 16bit PSD file in Photoshop which is annoying to work with. In 3ds max all is fine, 150fps on the wing plus displayed texture.

@kybel: Thanks

@cobra6: Yeah How's you bird going?

@TwoOneOne & Nerick: Not much to miss, basically the same renderings :P

@Artbot: Most of the cockpit stuff is modeling from photo reference. I constantly compare sizes and proportions between the parts. Wouldn;t be worth to model something CAD precise, it's just for something being there behind the cockpit canopy. Eyes take some reference photos, it's always way better than looking online for stuff.

So no update today, was working on the weekend... but soon...

Cheers
Andre

Holy macros!! 8k 16bit map... no wonder your renders look better than real O_O
My hat off to you sir... and funny enough, I built one a while back purely based on internet reference photos... all I can say is I can't hold me model up close... sigh. Might enlighten us with the poly count just on the wing?

@Richard823: haha thx for the kind words Any chance to have a look at your Mi-24? The polycount of the wing is at approx 380.000 polys.

@cobra6: Ah yeah I see, I also had almost no time to work on this one.

So finally I was able to sqeeze some time out of my schedule and worked a bit on the tail rotor. UVs were fun as they always are and here is the first version of the texture. Still some parts left to do, some more balancing required and so on...

Who doesn;t love this stuff? :P

And here's the first texture version. I used diffuse for bump and relfection for now. In case you wonder, yes it's going to be a rusty bird

unfortunately, my Mi-24 belongs to the government... and they don't let me put anything online. But I assure you... it's a joke compare to yours... you are like the sun... too bright... oh god it burns... BURNS!!

Looking OK so far. I'll be opening my own thread with this aircraft in a few weeks. Actually i'm working on the Super Hind but i'm making the original parts too since they are so similar, I might as well get two helicopters out of it. I started mine in 2008 but it quickly ground to a halt until this year, but by now i'm intimately familiar with every detail of the vehicle so I guess it wasn't a complete waste of time - i've improved as a modeller over that time too so it all helps . Anyway, good luck - the only advice I would give is don't rush it - it is very easy to make errors due to assumptions that certain parts are symmetrical - they aren't - not even the tiniest of things in some cases.

@Richard823: Ah ok, was really curious Well my Mi-24 is more insane, in not a good way I guess

@Telemachus: Thanks Cool working on a Hind as well? Nice! Can't wait to go through your thread then. Time for some helicopters here in the WIP section Yeah I won't rush anything here, want to get it right. There are a lot of a-symmetrical parts on it which ramps up the effort a lot. My version even has two different wings on it :P

So I'm back from my trip to Germany and soon there will be more updates then

Cheers

was wondering on how u choose what parts to model and what not..

u have some rules for yourself or its random or maybe depends on what u wont see in the final image/video render

can u post a ref for the last part u did? wondering how detailed you going..

@xLonewolfx: Well first rule of thumb here is: What's there physically will be modeled, at least on the outer hull. I'm not sure if I will do the enterior as all the shots I have in mind only show exterior. The cockpit will get some detailed stuff as you can see everything through the canopy. With last part you mean the tail rotor?

@romanovich: Thank you

@AlexSarakapudaff: Thnaks too, I just found this one for now, it's an older one I guess. Nothing fancy.

Wow, the poly density on that is making my machine at home retroactively explode. What graphics card are you using if I may ask?
