LOD levels for Mobile Models

Completed modeling on the "Veyron" inspired exotic vehicle. Came in at 1,166 polys, so well under the 1,200 limit. Changed the vehicle quite a bit, no distinctive front grille, removed front bumper air intake ports, side ports, changed the rear of the vehicle to have a custom rear bumper, changed a lot of the body lines to be more like a Porsche.



Just wondering in general how many out there are developing assets for mobile projects?

Do you mean how many people on this site, or how many people in the entire industry? Regardless, it's probably impossible to get a number in either case. What's your *actual* question?

There's a thread dedicated to mobile models in polycount. Might be a good place to find like-minded artists.

No spam intended by any means. Just sharing some 3d modeling I've been working on. My signature is just my signature... The thread is what it is about, the modeling I've been working on. I just was curious who else is working on mobile projects within this community.

Panupat - Thanks for the Polycount heads up! I know good polycounts for mobile models, just curious who in these parts was working on low poly work!

Btw, modeling update!

Vehicle came in at 1,202 polygons with a 512x512 PSD texture. This is shown shaded in the Unity game engine.

Nice work. Are you actually working on a project that these cars are for or are you just having fun?

Car #10 completed and rendered in the Unity Game Engine. The final poly tally is 860 polygons and the asset uses a 512 x 512 PSD texture for the diffuse and reflection (in alpha channel).



@thrivingartist - I'm working on a pack for other game developers to utlitize them for games, whatever they want to really. For me it's an educational experience, practice and they will prove useful for something at some point. I'm having a lot of fun building them and documenting the process along the way.

Looking at the wireframe it looks like you could drop a few more polys especially around the front wheel wells and the top of the hood.

@thrivingartist - Already done this morning! Was able to drop quite a few polys from around the front bumper area, hood and roof. Thanks for the heads up.

This is the "Porsche 911" inspired vehicle. Came in for the final poly count at 930 polygons. Uses a 512 x 512 customizable PSD texture. I've also finally came up with a shader for Unity that will allow you to "paint" only the metal car body with the Unity color picker! Will show that off in the next demo build.

Vehicle #12 (Modern Muscle) Modeling/IUVs completed.

Model came in at 864 polygons for the LOD 0 (highest LOD). The vehicle is a reference to a 2010 Camaro, but has been modeled to not match it's real world counterpart 100%. The design is a mix of multiple vehicles and artistic license.
