How to create custom animations for half-life 2?

So I was replaying half-life 2 again, and I was thinking to myself about the firstperson animations, (as in when you reload your guns and such) and they aren't the best. So I thought that I would like to give a shot at reanimating some things here and there, but the thing is..... I don't know were to really start.... Like I mean, how do I get the player model, and how can I export my animations once I'm done into a workable file that the game can use? I preferably would use Cinema 4d, but if I have to I can use 3ds max, but how exactly can I go about this?
