Oh! Thats a great idea, Leader of the Guard! Muwahaha!

There's still a lot to do, including my second enemy the King's Hunting Dog, so we'll see if I can get a final area set up where I have to face the Leader of Guard! I hope so, it would fit very well!

Thanks Etsu!

Hello Everyone!

Its been a little bit since my last post.
I've been working on finishing important features of the gameplay... which is coming along well, but not much to show off.

So Today I worked on a bit of showy stuffage for everyone!
Here is a short video of my Temple's Center Piece that is also my Weapons PickUp.

The Power resides in the Soul of the Tree...

Grrrr CGS World...

Yesterday and so far Today have been uber frustrating.

Did everyone know that it is not possible to simply animate an object directly and have it be a part of your FBX file for an animation. Oh no, if you do that, then when you apply an animation it snaps each object that is not rigged directly to the center.
This is normally what you would want. No matter where your character is standing, the walk animation for example is imported in on (0, 0, 0) so it starts playing right where you are and doesn't say snap you to the left 5 units when you start to walk.
But, if you want the object to be snapped 5 units to the left, because that's where your sword was inside the FBX, too bad!

So, I am now adding a bone to my weapon and parenting it under the skel hierarchy.

BoooYa FBX & Legacy settings!

Thank you for caring about my rant,
- Bergquist

Hey Bergquist,

yeah I know of that.
I think (didn't test though) that prior to importing to Mixamo you can paint weight map for attached object with color from specific bone and it gets imported. What I mean - make the bone in the hand affect the object animation/deformation.

But the better way IMHO is to separate the character from the weapon. Make the animation for the character, then just parent the weapon gameobject to the required bone (gameobject) in imported Mixamo rig in Unity. You can easily switch your weapon models that way (if you change them) and it's animated quite well. No need to reimport whole lotta models and animations if you change the weapon only.
For fine tuning the position of object (weapon) relative to character you just hit play, then pause. Adjust weapon position to way you want it to look like. Right click on the gear in the Transforms component, copy component. Stop game, then in the Transform of your weapon make use of Copy component values. It may look strange, but when you hit play again the weapon sticks to correct positions.

I hope it will be helpful some way in the future.

See you back after challenge and good luck !

Hey Tleszczynski,
Yeah, I wanted to do it that way, but my enemy character has an enormous weapon, and he has to maneuver around it and change holding positions in several places... So just parenting it won't do the trick.
Thats ok though, I'm working on a much better joint structure for all this maneuverability

Ello Everyone!

End of another hard days work this weekend and I know I don't have a lot to show, but I was able to solve a lot of problems and learn a lot about animated asset preparations.

Working hard on tweaked custom animations with Giant Sword! I've custom rigged & animated all of the Enemy's leg dressings and armor as well as the weapon of course. The main body animation is based on Mixamo download, then modified as needed to fit weapon and animation transitions.
Here is a little grab of nothing and everything! hehe

I'm envious of that "power source" yours. Yes. Envy. A tree with a soul? Very cool.

...and there, at the heart of the tree was the burning soul of Algrus.
...the demon's essence, caged in this place to awaken the guardians...

(it helps if you read it in an english accent, hehe)

Thanks for the post Etsu!

Thanks for the post Etsu! - Bergquist

I have just imagine David Tennant saying that parliament, and it was so cool. A game with such mystical lore needs an actor like Ian McKellen or perhaps Hugo Weaving as the main narrator.
