Does this mean I can't sell my own game, except to be promoted for free? What if I wish to perhaps finish this game and perhaps sell it or something? Do I need Ballistic Media to do that?

That's what I am confused about as well. So I hope we'll get some clarification about whether or not a game made for this contest can be used commercially or not asap.

Post

Hi everyone! I was looking through the FAQ and I saw something that said:
"File Type: ‘.unity3d’ Built with FPS Control."
Does this mean that everything has to be built with FPSControl? Or can we use FPSControl for certain things (like enemies and AI for example) and use something else for the FPS camera system?
If not, that's totally fine, I just would like to be able to use a custom FPS camera system (because I prefer having the ability to modify my own source code)

Thanks for the help,

James K

Smile First Post!

First Post! This looks awesome!

Probably well beyond my capabilities but love to see contests like this!

Are these group projects or individual?

What if you excel in one aspect (3D) but not in another (programming), can you get help?

Hi, i have a problem with mixamo's entrie, i don't accessed to free full access for the during of this challenge, the link proposed me to pay as usually use within challenge, just autorigger is free + mesh less 10k. Sorry for my english.
THX for reply and good continuation all.

Hi Tommy,

No it's completely yours to sell We are hoping that people do finish their games!

If you want to commercialise the game you will of course have to follow the requirements from each of the contributors.

I've encountered a few problems/bugs:
  • Allegorythmic Substance - Download Link to Demo only downloads the 30 day trial.
  • Boom Library - Following the link in the instructions eventhough you end up at a supposed affiliation page there is no download link whatsoever to be found.
Maybe someone can help with those, or it's just me being stupid

Hiya, I'll have a look for you

Downloaded FPS Control Before start of challange.

Hi, I know that that games entered must be made after the challenge started and all but if I had the FPS Control Beta 5.0 downloaded before it started, does it still count or must I redownload it?

Some problems with the videos:
All videos in step 3 (and Tweaking Game-Play videos) are not viewable from Germany because of the audio/music -.-

What are the seven categories stated here "Excel in one, or all seven categories to win."

Question

Hi, this challenge looks great. And I really want to participate ... but
I'm 17 years old

Sooo ... in the "Terms & Conditions" is written, that all Entrants must be 18 or older.
Can you make an exception ... or isn't that in your hands and it has to do something with other laws?

Question Some clarification

When registering for the "free stuff", what actually happens?

I already have a (simple, free) Mixamo account. When I tried to register, it picked up my existing account and I was "welcomed to the CGSociety challenge", but it is unclear how it links to the temporary (90? 30 days?) free all-access pass there? Or is it only accessible from within Unity+FPScontrol?

When registering for gametextures, you apparently get a one-month free subscription, but the only way to claim it, is to pass your VISA or paypal and actually subscribe for $19/month, which is, frankly, quite misleading. I accept a time-limited subscription, but only if it is not an automatic subscription after that.

Sorry to rant, as I believe that this is a very interesting challenge and a good outset. I hope that some of these issues can be ironed out.

Hi,

I have subscribed to this challenge in hopes of producing an entry even though I have no experience in game development.

Here is my problem: The rules are unclear.

First problem:

Quote: Participating artists will create up to 2 minutes of gameplay. - See more at: http://challenge.cgsociety.org/game#instructions

and

Quote: Deliverables:- Final game: First-person shooter at least 2 minutes gameplay & game preview image. - See more at: http://challenge.cgsociety.org/game#instructions

later

Quote: Get ready to create up to two minutes of game-play. - See more at: http://challenge.cgsociety.org/game#instructions

"At least" or "up to"?
This is contradictory, please clarify if we are supposed to create more or less than 2 minutes of gameplay.

Second Problem:

What exactly do the judges deem an FPS?

FPS stands for First-Person Shooter, yet the video shows some kind of roman sword-fighting game in first person.
Am I to understand that the "shooter" part is entirely irrelevant?

Can I deliver a game like The Ball or Portal, which is a First Person Puzzle game?
Or Dear Esther?
Or Minecraft?
Or Thief?

What -exactly- are we expected to deliver?

Is it supposed to necessarily involve shooting?
If yes, is it required to be the central mechanic or can it only involve limited shooting but more melee combat? Must it be actual -shooting- (with a gun/(cross)bow) or can it involve throwing projectiles like rocks, fireballs or knives?

Is the first-person part mandatory? Can it sometimes leave the first-person perspective for cutscenes or scripted events/panning shots?
Can it have other separate perspectives (isometric, third person)?
For Example, can I have a strategic/tactical overhead planning phase where I am not in first person (Nuclear Dawn, Battlefield 2 Commander Mode)? Can I leave the first person view while sprinting (Section 8 Prejudice)?
How much first-person needs to be in the game (Deus Ex Human Revolution)?

Does it need to be real-time? Can I submit a turn-based shooter or include turn-based elements (Fallout 3 VATS)?

Please clarify the rules as to the content and game genre that has to be delivered.

Thank You
