In my latest personal work, I decided model Samus Aran from Metroid games. I

created a re-design for Samus Aran with some influences of Dead Space and

Starcraft. I have a little of work to plan that charatcer because I would like a

character that can really wear the armor with out losing the mobility and

movements.

I started modeling the base mesh in 3Ds MAX arround the Mudbox human base mesh to

get a idea to how modeling each part os the armor. After that I give some female

proportions to my human base mesh and have a more accurated reference to armor. I

used a proportion of 9 heads to my character. 4 heads to upper body and 5 heads to

legs giving a more close Nintendo's game style to my Samus model.

I did some tests of animation with my base mesh before starting modeling on

Zbrushm such as armor opening system.
To make sure the character with armor have fully mobility I need ignore some

physical impossibilities of human body. Mainly to don't lose Varia Suit

characteristics such as the iconic Pelvis and Shoulders.

I used to Samus Zero suit a 2048x2048 texture for body and two maps of 512x512 to

head and hair. The model have about 12000 triangles, where 4000 I used only for

Hair. For the Varia Suit I used two textures of 2048x2048. With about 32000 triangles

with Samus wearing the Armor.

All images rendered in Marmoset Tool bag with Difuse, Normal, Specular and

Emissive maps.
