Gentlykind's Armed and Dangerous

Hello, I uploaded a couple images already but I think a wip thread will have more viewers.

here's my latest update, I was trying to see if I could just render it in mudbox, trying to achieve soft shadows with the ambient occlusion. It looks kind of like a global illumination render.

I also worked some more on the "helmet", I don't have a concept so I just keep experimenting. I want the final to have a mix between hard surface and organic modelling.

If anyone has any hard surface mudbox tips that would help greatly, I'm currently using curves and pinch. still looks like mush.

Looking great. Like the concept, what's his story? What is this mysterious "helmet"?

With regards to hard surface modelling, Mudbox lacks some tools here, but I find the Scrape brush to be pretty useful here. Make sure to play around with brush falloffs as well.

ChrisWalker - Thanks , the story is inspired by the movie Akira. My character has the ability to move small objects with his mind, he discovers this gift accidentally. People find out and they want to test and harness his power. The machine on his head pumped him with an awesome amount of energy, it also triggered something in his brain and now he is RAGING and continually getting stronger.

I like using the scrape brush with the steady stroke, the flatten brush is great too!

Update!

ooh the details

I like the details...starting to take shape....

Your conversation with DrZenith about the brushes...good info.

Love the character and the hardsurface stuff !
I think you've got a really good base, I'm wondering how big the "helmet" will be. Are you planning on any disturbing pipe/fleshy bits merging with the machine ?

Hey thanks Maxloegler! I really dig your Sith!

VinceTech - Glad you're liking it so far, but I'm not even sure if I will use the big helmet any more. I don't like the way the head protrudes out like that. This whole thing is just experimentation for me since I have no concept, I'm just trying whatever. all I know is I want to implement rock n roll and 80s sci fi, like the heavy metal movie.

Here is another update, changed the face some more and added a bunch of things. looks like he's singing lol.

I really liked the previous design, this one is a bit more common
Really like this expression on the face though.

I agree with Vincent, the first concept has a bit weird and it has a original positive felling. I like the idea from Akira.

The main problem looks that he has a printer in his head, because it's out of scale. If you achieve that the helmet is created from small random pieces could be really good.

he reminds me, with the new head, of a front man .

what i like about the first design, is the way the face is nested in.

Hey guys! thanks for the feedback, but I went in another direction again. This is more from Akira, when Tetsuo Shima gets his arm blown off and it rebuilds itself it gets all gross and bubbly.
