Places to Eat / Drink / Shop

  • So what are the places where one might get a decent meal?
  • Where are the cool pubs in Vancouver?
  • What are the best places to find bargains?

Me thinks somebody already had a drink or two: pubs in San Diego? You'll be hard pressed to find many familiar faces down there ;-)

I think there's like a ton of restaurants around the headquaryets hotels, that won't be a problem unless you want to go even farther like Chinatown, Gaslamp or even Granville Island.

Vancouver is not like the states so if you want to go to a pub and get a drink you will pay up the butt for it. A bottle of like Miller is 5.50$ at a pub. I would suggest going to North Vancouver from the sea bus though I live in north Van and there is alot of food places here its super nice.

I found a website, UrbanSpoon, that lists restaurants with reviews and recommendations for Vancouver hotels. I'm sure there are other sites (haven't checked OpenTable yet to see if they cover Vancouver). Anyway here it is:

That's good to know, although it will be most useful after the SIGGRAPH sessions for dinner and afterwards. For lunch, when you have something like 1:30 hrs (aprox) between morning and afternoon sessions your almost stuck to walking distance from the Convention Center (if you want to avoid their food).

Excellent good to hear from a local, I might have to check it out.

BTW beware when using a search engine to find this place, make sure it Steamworks Brewing Company, and not Steamworks Vancouver

Also a few blocks up from waterfront, or if you take the Canada Line Skytrain if you get off at the City Centre stop, it lets you off at the Pacific Centre mall which is decent shopping.

Outside around the Pacific Centre mall there's plenty of shops in almost all directions, sometimes you can grab some good deals there.

This is a bit off topic but take your time and visit Stanley Park, its beautiful in the summer.

steamworks sucks...its like average microbrewery fair.

Its Vancouver take advantage of the good food.
There is awesome sushi all over - my favorite place is Kadoya (location on davie and one on denman.)

There is lots of awesome stuff on denman actually.
Nook is an awesome wine/pizza experience.

Poncho's is amazing mexican...and cheap margaritas.

On Granville there is a place called templeton's that does a great breakfast/lunch and early dinner.

There is a place called shabusen which is great korean/japanese BBQ and its closer to the convention center.

There is a little restaurant called nuba which is closer to the granville bridge.

Seriously...there is good food all over downtown and its all with in 15-20 min walk from where ever you are.

Then there is the real good stuff...but you have to head away from downtown for that.

If you walk a couple blocks upto to Granville street there is many shops there with comic books , toys , dvds etc.
If you are willing to take a short train ride you can also find this place:

http://www.bookmanager.com/1181300/?

which is awesome for art books.
