Battle ship

Wow, I love the style!

First thing I noticed: The cannons in the distance could glow/explode a bit more, that the viewer immediately understands the situation. It took me a while to understand the idea.

I like the rendering of the sea and the overal atmosphere
The ship in the foreground might benefit from a couple of silhouettes on the desk and/or in the in the rigging to show scale and add a bit of life.

Agree with the first comments, and would especially like to see more detail in that middle-ground ship which at the moment has about the same amount of detail as the background ships.

Overall, an evocative piece.

More smoke, too, those cannons put out a ton of black smoke.

I don't see a problem with detail. It's the composition. In a storm right? Maybe play up on that ( see link). I think it would be more interesting.

Hey man,

Are you basing your ship off the East Indiaman Götheborg? This was a merchant ship with a thin hull and small cannons, and would never be sailing into a battle. It was armed only to keep away small, fast pirate ships. This would be like making a painting of someone driving a delivery van into a tank battle.

Your ship could use a little canvas as well. The yards should be bent, and the ship might be leaning to one side.

I've got this image in my ref collection, and I think the pose on the ship is really well done.
