The Future

Hello, this is my first painting. I want to make it look very good but don't have a good idea how.
Can you please give me specific advises? Thanks in advance!

First off, the hand is looking really good! Great attention to subtle skin tone changes and detail like veins. A few things that would really make the hand "pop" are these:
1. Bolder shadow definition in the thumbnail and first knuckle wrinkles.
2. A shadow beneath the hand. If the hand is resting on the surface, it will be a sharp, thin, dark shadow. If it is hovering over the surface, the edges of the shadow will be softer and the shadow itself will likely be a little lighter and a little wider.

The mechanical fingers are not quite convincing yet. Do the mechanics go over the flesh or under the flesh? The image doesn't make this very clear. If over the flesh, then the index finger is too wide and looks stuffed into the machine. If under the flesh, then the rest of the hand (everything except the index finger) meets too closely to the machine. There is no blood here, so I'm going to assume that the flesh was not torn away when the fingers were broken off, but if it was, then there needs to be indications of torn flesh.

I'm going to assume you're not done with the red puddle, so I won't touch on that until I know what it's a puddle of. Same for the background. I have no idea what that is. It kind of looks like corkboard, though. If it is, something like a thumbtack would help cement that idea.
