Desert Tunnel - formerly "An offering to the bug king"

This started as a small sketch on a piece of paper, of a big insect-like creature in a canyon cave, so decided to have a go at this, so I started a rough digital painting (for now it's really small). I decided to add some more story into this, so I put three sacrificial people, that are advancing to the cave where the giant bug awaits them. This is a very old tradition, as I hope one can determine by looking at the cave paintings on the cave entrance.

I like the idea, but this still needs a lot of work, so as always, C&C are most welcome.

A small update; removed the bug's leg, it was drawing too much attention and didn't feel right. Also, added spectators on the cliffs above.

Removed the whole sacrifice story, wasn't happy with it, so I reworked this just as a landscape image, inside a desert canyon.

Aaaw. I was liking the sacrifice story. Oh well. This is interesting, too. Desert canyons can be quite beautiful! Definitely approve of the brighter, more cheery colours for this new direction.

I liked the sacrificial narrative too. Now it's just another landscape study that doesn't have anything unique about it.
