Mutation 2

Hi, I tried to give a sense of oppression and pain. I need critiques for the light.
Thank you

Just add camera wires, rusty details on the sink and a Yale T-shirt to mean the guy's life before the mutation.

Don't treat forms as if they are hard-edged contours with soft/vague/blurry value transition inside the contours. The turning of form can be abrupt and angular or soft and rounded, and you need to give them the proper sharpness/softness depending on the rate of the turn.

Same with shadows--be it form or cast shadows. They are not all soft by default, and some shadows can be very sharp. This is true for highlights too. You need to learn about the behavior of light and shadows. Check out the Art Techniques & Theories forum for helpful tutorials (linked below in my signature).

Check the perspective--some perspective lines seem a bit off (the wall next to the door and the bottom opening of the door).

If that wall light is the main light source, then the mutant figure is a bit too bright all over. Light has falloff rate, and you need to show that.

Ok, thank you. Very useful as always.
Can I ask you to draw the lines where I should use cast or soft or hard edged light and shadows?

Thank you.

I'd love to, but I'm completely swamped since I'm teaching a record-breaking number of students in this current run of the "Becoming A Better Artist" workshop. I barely have time to visit cgtalk these days.

Read this tutorial on lighting:

And this is also very detailed and helpful:

Just work on light: tried to paint terminator line using ambient reflecting secondary light and giving a sense of fall off.
I still have to work on the perspective.
