Approaching the 3D World
my name is Björn (I know it's hard to pronounce), I am 22 years old and I live in Germany. I recently finished my bachelor thesis in "Digital Media: Animation & Games".
This study course taught us the broad field of Computergames and Computeranimation. Unfortunately we only got taught the essentials and the basics and we never had the opportunity to really specialize. My biggest interest lays in all kinds of 3D. I am mostly interested in 3D modeling, but I am willing to learn every field related to 3D.
My passion are computergames, but I am also interested in 3D art for movies, commercials etc.
I am new to this Forum and this is my very first post as you can see. My questions to you folks now are:
What is a good way to get started and to get into the huge world of 3D graphics?
Where to find good tutorials, lessons, tips etc?
Are there any great books about 3D (especially modeling)?
Do I need to be a good painter to become a 3D artist?
Additionally I want to show you some of my models. Those are my very first 3D models ever and as you can see I already got some 3D experience (3D studio max) but somehow diving into a sea of tutorials and copying other guys seems like a wrong start to me...
I'd love to get some of your opinions, comments and critiques.
Those models were created for our bachelor animated movie "Corner Shop".
