For educational materials I would check out Lynda.com, digital tutors, gnomonworkshop, or cgsociety .
It is important to use your practice time wisely. You will learn faster if you have
tutorials to get you through the basics. You can learn more in a few years of intense and directed study, than ten years of doing things the same way over and over.
my two cents.

Learn Maya. Its what all the pros use! Everyone will say other softwares to use, but Maya is the only way to go if you want to become a pro one day.
Go to digitaltutors.com and for Christmas/Hanukkah or your next Birthday ask your parents to have you sign up for them. 45$ a Month.
Its an excellent way to learn Maya and other Packages.
Best of Luck
