(Noob alert) How are fight sequnces composed for fighting games

okay so im very new to the cg world i been experimenting with 3ds max and i would like to dive head first into mobile game creation . so here is my question i would like to make a 2d fighting game like mortal kombat, and i was wonder how do one go about animating the fight sences i kno i aready have models and rigs, now im ready to animate. i have even went ahead and started doing simple animations like kick , punch , stance etc. etc. but what i never could undestand was how do a animator animate for the actual actions within the game. is there like a dummie soultion or something like that im not asking anybody to do my work for me but i need a little help prehaps a pipeline demonstration.
