Which Art Institute? If you're talking about the national chain of schools, they're pretty terrible. If you mean either the Art Institute of Chicago of the San Francisco Art Institute, they'e ok schools, but not geared towards commercial art.

I think AI Chicago is pretty geared towards commercial art. There aren't many VFX/games studios in town, but lots of advertising work, especially with FCB and Leo in town. I ran into a lot of AI Chicago grads who were doing motion graphics, product rendering, composting, and working as crew on small shoots.

That being said, its still crazy expensive, and If heard lots of horror stories about 6 figure debt. Especially since getting lucky and "making it" means you might pull in 40K per year, I would recommend that you pass on AI.

Are you talking about Chapman? They charge $1275 per credit hour. Looks like AI is around $1200 per hours as well. You better make sure you've got John Lasseter as your instructor for that price.

My local CC in Indiana charges $117 per credit hour, and most public state schools charge around $400 per credit hour.

If you can afford those schools, then go for it. Just keep in mind that there are cheaper options else where.
