How can I create this animation effect?

I am working on a test animation where I have a motorcycle that needs to "build" or "unfold" (or something like that). It is a difficult effect to describe, so I have a video of about what it needs to look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhp4k85DHKI

The effect was created using the Blender program, however I would like to reproduce it in 3DS Max (or possibly Maya, however Maya is totally alien to me), as I was never able to figure out Blender. Is there a plugin (preferrably free) that can handle this for me, or if not, how can I accomplish it myself?

you could either try playing with the visibility of the different parts or you could try doing it in post production.

I would render out the parts of the vehicle separately and use masks to reveal those parts in After Effects. Might be a bit easier this way just for that fact that if you wanted to change timing you wouldn't have to do rerenders.
