Think Lux is still finishing to develop all the Suite
so that probably it will have its own render engine,
as well as export for renderman.

Its strange , infact that a modeler and animation
tool have not a rendering engine.

after all, what people at Siggraph saw was
only a first glance of their work.

we'll have to wait to know more.

for Lw also, I think that it will go
on its way, with Newtek developing it
the better they can.

so I'm very happy!
we will have better tools in the future.

confused...

I've gotta say I'm a little confused..... Surely many of the Lux developers are still under contract with Newtek. If that's the case surely Newtek have a non-competition clause (or whatever-its-called) in the contract with these guys?

Apologies if this sounds like I'm trolling but I guess I must have missed this item of news. Have the lux guys severed their contract with Newtek then?

My experience has been that non-compete clauses tend to prove unenforceable in a court of law.

i hope they have something like maya MtoR that would make a lot of things a whole lot easier.

Newtek has only said that everything is resolved and that a contract is in place. Which could mean anything. I don't think people should jump to conclusions over what kind of "non-competition clause" newtek may have with them. And a contract of SOME type better be in place as modeler still carries a Stuart Furgeson copyright.

Well, not really, but normally the leaving / competing party will either recieve money for not competing, or be allowed to compete (well, at least over here).

My thoughts exactly.

I don't know guys. I think it is sort of wishful thinking. Think about it there was so much contravercy over the last year or so between the two camps. That would be a strange marketing ploy many new users were steared away from LW then, and many jumped ship due to the slow build time and uncertainty....

I think if it were true they would have made it crystal clear long ago to avoid all that mess.

of course I like suprises, and it would be a huge shocker! We will know in a few hours I guess.

I think you guys are dreaming, Nwwtek has said many times that Newtek and Lux have nothing to do with eachother.

Very few things travel faster than rumor.

Nothing rienforces fear and speculation like a good 'ol rumor.

At the company level. Since Modeler is a seperate program than Layout it would be real easy for a user to team up Modo and Layout...

This time zone delay sucks. It would only be worse if SIGGRAPH was in Hawaii.

So since lux is obviously a competing program, why is their website so Lightwave oriented? I thought it was going to be some companion program that enhanced some of Lightwaves weaknesses, but Lightwaves modeler is hardly it's weakness.

hey shade, the way Modo was made, a 3dsmax or Maya or Lightwave or XSI modeler could start using Modo and all of the keyboard and mouse controls and viewports and button layout is customized to what they're used to in their main app. Lux is really trying to please everyone, not just Lightwave artists. If you think about it, a lot of studios have Lightwave in their pipeline as their modeling app but they never use Layout, I think Modo was made for these people especially. You should have seen all the Digital Domain guys that were there! They seemed to have a lot of direct input into the features of Modo as probably some other studios.

As for speculation of what else Lux is making, here's my thought, since they want to play nice and want to fit into other's pipelines, maybe they will create a new layout that has connections to all the big renderers, Mental Ray, Renderman, Vray, and leave it open like Modo so you can easily add other 3rd party renderers, and maybe it will have a new "rewritten from scratch" GI renderer, who knows? This is just speculation! I know nothing!
