How to achieve a render like to this...

I'm starting to learn some rendering techniques but I can't figure out how to get a clay render to look like this:

It's not that important, I just want to know how it's done for future reference.

It's not a clay render a the material shows some reflections.
Apart from that - GI and some kind of direct light or a sun/daylight systems should do the trick.

Also, might be an idea to post in the relevant forum, i.e: lighting & shaders...

Whoops. I'm not used to this forum so I just posted here. By global Illumination do you mean just using a skylight and a target light of some sort? I tried that and it still didn't look as good as the one in the picture.

Naming the used program/renderer helps to help.
I'm assuming you're using 3ds max so you could try a daylight system with an HDRI for the skylight.
