Section view tool in 3ds Max?

First off, sorry if this has been asked before, I've searched high and low over the net for answers but still no luck

I'm fairly new to 3ds and want to be able to work in a section view so I can easily change elements of the model which I usually would not be able to see unless I zoomed inside, which is un-practical and very awkward.

I have tried using slice, but it does not work as when used on a editable poly and trying to select polygons for example it will just go back to the full model since the slice modifier is on top.

I tried using clipping planes, but that's not really helpful

If anyone is familiar with sketchup's section tool, which just allows you to the view the whole model or parts of the model in section without actually cutting it, then that's what I'm after in 3ds, just can't seem to find it.

any help is really appreciated

Thanks guys
