City in Maya

Hi Guys

I am new to maya.. I have been using it for only a couple of months now.. I have a project were i am gonna make a helicopter fly around the city and land on a building at the top.. I have modeled a basic helicopter.. Now i have to do a city.. I need some suggestions.. Because i dont wanna create a city by any plugins too.. This scene takes place at night.. If u guys can find me any tutorials that would be more helpful because i couldn't..

And the other thing is people say i can create the shape of the building and apply texture and in photoshop i can make the windows glow as if it has been lighted which would reduce the render time.. I guess i can make detailed buildings at the path the helicopter goes alone... Any advice which would make it simple in rendering would be fine.. Sorry if i ask stupid questions... I am just a noob and i am excited too... thank you..

Use it being night to your advantage. Model a few hero buildings for up close, but further away keep the illumination really weak so you can get away with just using a bunch of cubes with texture maps on them as buildings.

thanks for your reply mate.. And when i create the buildings which will be away from camera view which is just cubes and cylinders, to reduce the render time most of them suggests that it should be low poly count.. So is ok if render it in one mode instead of smooth or 3???

Yeah, it's fine if objects further away from camera aren't smoothed.
