Is the ability to draw necessary to get into 3D modeling?

I have an interest in dipping my toes into 3D modeling and trying it out however, I wonder if it's necessary to be talented at drawing on paper. Like do you guys draw what you're going to make a 3D model of? Like say draw a concept?

Thumbs up

It certainly helps to be able to draw references of what you want to create, but it is by no means a necessity. You can always find plenty of references online and in real life, and if you have an idea in your head you should be able to sketch out enough of what you want to create in order to get a start on it.

It certainly dosn't hurt, but, I would say it's far more important to have a keen eye for details and a good understanding of proportions and forms.
